T. U. Michael Sieg
T. U. Michael Sieg
In 2003, Michael established ThomasLloyd, an independent alternative asset management group that focuses predominantly on private equity investing.
At early stages of the firm’s evolution, Michael identified the growing gap and institutional needs for project financing and investments in sustainable real assets that are essential to combat climate change. In a sector that has been continuously receiving inadequate advice and underinvested, Michael already led the first investment of ThomasLloyd in an investment banking firm that focused on cleantech investments in 2005. Subsequently, the group then focussed on investment advisory, cleantech investments, and providing cleantech solutions globally.
After initial success, Michael directed and led the firm to become a dedicated global impact asset manager investing in high-growth and emerging markets. ThomasLloyd is now one of the world’s leading impact investors and providers of climate financing, having raised over USD 1.3 billion in aggregate capital. Michael has been involved in all phases of Thomas Lloyd’s development and is the Chair of the Investment Committee.
Michael has been involved in and led a number of high-profile trade delegations over the years. As one of the most experienced and largest investors in renewable energy in the Philippines, Michael joined a delegation with the German Foreign Minister as part of his trip to South East Asia in 2013 in order to deepen trade relations between Germany and the Philippines. Since then, Michael has led delegations to China in 2014, to the Philippines in 2016 and 2017 and to India in 2017, 2019 and 2020.
Michael is recognised as an innovator and early expert in the sustainable deployment of capital in real assets in fast-growing economies. He is a regular speaker and contributor to forward thinking on sustainable investment, impact investing, climate change mitigation and diversity.
